San Saba

San Saba is located in central Texas and home of the Pecan.  The town itself is a mix of older buildings that are trying to survive and others that are just downright amazing.  So here are what I consider the amazing:  San Saba Olive Oil Company, JC Campbell & Co. Mercantile, and Oliver and Co Confections and Coffee, Scary Man Cellars, and best of all Wedding Oak Winery.  Wedding Oak Winery was why this trip was made and it proved to be worth the trip.  If they had a restaurant in the store I probably would stay there all day!  As for other things to do, the one and only suspension bridge The Regency Suspension Bridge is worth seeing if you can find your way out in the middle of a country drive along with the Wedding Oak tree itself which is just outside town.  Since this was a weekend trip, the place to stay is the Dofflemeyer Hotel.  Don’t bother with anything else because this place is great.  It is above Oliver and Co so you don’t have far to go for food and it is just two buildings down from Wedding Oak Winery.  If you have 30 extra minutes drive down South to Cooper’s Old Time BBQ in Llano.  It’s worth the drive and one of the Texas Monthly top 50 BBQ places in the State.
